APEX Curriculum

The Monroe County School District uses the online curriculum offered through Apex Learning.  Apex Learning is a computer based program that offers multiple pathways, each designed to meet specific needs of students as they transition from middle school to high school and progress toward graduation.

Apex Learning delivers digital learning solutions for differentiated instruction, credit recovery, remediation, alternative schools, stance learning, and exam preparation. The Apex Learning academic curriculum provides stands-based courses in math, science, English, social studies, world language, electives, and Advanced Placement primarily for grades 9 through 12. Courses are organized into semesters, units, lessons, and activities and offer rich multimedia, scaffolding, and interactivity to keep students motivated and help them succeed.

Apex courses are divided into four categories: Foundation, General Studies (Literacy Advantage, Core, Honors), Advanced Placement, and Exam Prep (state exam prep, AP exam prep).

Foundations courses meet the needs of both high school students and transitioning middle school students who are not prepared for grade-level academic challenges. Foundation courses develop skills and strategies in math, reading, and writing with the goal of raising achievement to a high school level.

The Apex Learning general studies curriculum features three course pathways to prepare all high school graduates for college and work. The courses in these three pathways share a common scope and sequence and cover the same rigorous, standards-based content. Literacy Advantage courses meet the needs of students who are not prepared for grade-level academic challenges because they are reading below proficient. Core courses meet the needs of a range of students as they endeavor to master rigorous content and earn credits toward graduation. While Core courses assume readiness for grade-level academic challenges, they also include targeted scaffolding for students who benefit from additional learning support.

Honors courses meet the needs of motivated students seeking to accelerate their learning and deepen conceptual understanding.

Apex Learning AP courses meet higher-education expectations of college-level courses and prepare students to demonstrate achievement through success on the AP exams.  Exam Prep courses align to Kentucky's High School State Exam and provide resources that prepare students for the AP exams.
