Moving to 100% Virtual Learning FAQs

* We will return to in person learning on November 10, 2020.

* There will be NO school on November 2 and 3, 2020 (virtual or in person).

* Students should have received a chromebook today at school but if they didn't, call the school tomorrow to schedule an appointment to pickup a chromebook.

* Deep cleaning will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week at each school. There will be no teaching staff at schoo on Tuesday and Wednesday. School administrators will be at school and custodians on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday of this week we will be at 50% capacity for our teaching staff. Therefore, if your student needs in person tutoring, you will need to call the school and schedule an appointment.

* Wee Care Daycare and the Monroe County Wellness Center will remain open.

* Food delivery will begin on Wednesday. We will use our transportation department for delivery and we will also have one day a week for parents to pickup food. More information about food delivery will come in the near future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. This wasn't an easy decision but we believe it's the best decision for the safety and well-being of everyone.

Two Options: Hot Meal Pick-up or Cold Meal Home Delivery

Hot Meal Pick-up
Available Monday-Thursday from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
Available at all schools.
Parent/Guardian or Student can pick-up meals with the student’s lunch number.
A cold meal for Friday will be given with Thursday’s hot meal.
This option offers the best and most nutritious meals for our students.

Cold Meal Delivery
Available Monday - Thursday from 7:00 AM- 9:00 AM.
Cold meals will be delivered every other day.
Enough meals will be given to cover multiple days.
Parent/Guardian or Student must be home each day to receive a meal.
Student lunch numbers must be given to receive the meals.
A signed permission slip is required to receive cold meal delivery.

Milk and juice will be provided with each meal.

When you choose the type of meal plan for your student(s), you MUST stay with that plan. Therefore, be confident in the choice you make.

If you have more than one student in the MCSD and they attend different schools, choose one school and pick-up meals at that school for each of your children. This will allow parents to make only one stop to pick up meals rather than having to stop at multiple schools.

Community Hubs will not be an option at this time.

The Monroe County School District's phone system will be going down at 2 pm today, March 18th, 2020 for about 30 minutes as the Technology Department performs some maintenance. It should be up and operational by 2:30 pm. This will affect all schools and the Board of Education.

Following the direction of Governor Beshear, the Monroe County Wellness Center will be closed beginning tomorrow, March 18, 2020, at 4:00 pm until further notice. For more information, logon on to the MCWC Facebook page.

Plans for school closure from March 16-27, 2020

Food Service
Beginning March 16th meals will be served at each school from 7:30am-12:30pm. There will be a designated area to pick up grab and go meals. Students may receive two meals a day.

There will be stations throughout the county for meal drop-offs. Meal drop-offs will be at fire departments throughout the county.

Athletics
KHSAA has suspended all sports and practice until April 13th. Visit KHSAA website for more information.
All athletic facilities will be closed during this time.

Monroe County Wellness Center
Currently, the 24 hour access to the gym will remain open. However, all rentals for groups have been postponed after spring break (April 6-10).
If members choose to use the gym at the WC, clean the equipment with the products provided before and after use.

Wee Care Daycare
Currently, Wee Care Daycare will remain open. Each child will be screened each morning by taking their temperature. If a child has a temperature above 99 degrees, they will not be allowed to stay at daycare until they have been without fever for more than 24 hours.

Facilities
Rentals will not be permitted during the closure. Therefore, if you have rented a cafeteria or gym, you will need to reschedule the event for after spring break.

Instructional Practices
Each school will have a survey available online via their website and Facebook page asking parents to let us know if their child has access to technology to be able to do their work online or if their student needs a paper copy of the assignments. Once we have gathered this information, we will devise a plan to ensure the instructional needs of all students are being met.

Wee Care Daycare will be closed beginning Monday March 16-27th. We had hoped to remain open but under the direction of the Governor we believe it is best to close. Thank you for understanding during these difficult times.

This group is designed to offer support and guidance in raising a child that is not your own by either birth or adoption.  All of the caregivers have different custodial roles. Some have primary custody, some have guardianship, and others are just the person that is taking care of the school age child.  The child may or may not be related to the caregiver.

We begin each meeting with light refreshments and then follow it with an informative speaker.  Some of the topics we have discussed in the past include: budgeting, exercise, health care, parenting, and crafts.  Through this group we have formed a special bond with these individuals and they rely on each other for support and guidance.

Updated Yearly 2018-2019 Calendar

At the end of school today it was reported that a threatening message was written on a bathroom stall at Monroe Co Middle School. Authorities have been contacted and a full investigation will occur. Students were dismissed and are safe.

The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA) honored two Kentucky schools as 2018 National ESEA Distinguished Schools on Thursday, Jan. 31, during the 2019 National ESEA Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. The Kentucky schools are among 68 schools nationwide to receive the honor.

Gamaliel Elementary School (Monroe County) was recognized for significantly closing the achievement gap between student groups. Perryville Elementary School (Boyle County) was recognized for exceptional student performance for two consecutive years.

The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators – formerly the National Title I Association – is dedicated to building the capacity of education professionals to provide disadvantaged children with a high-quality education. NAESPA implemented the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program to highlight schools that have effectively used their ESEA federal funds to improve education outcomes for students. The program acknowledged the success of hundreds of schools in one of three categories:

• Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two consecutive years

• Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups

• Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homelessness, migrant, English learners, etc.)

Title I is the cornerstone of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and is the largest federally funded pre-college education program in the United States. Together with other federal education programs of the ESEA – which are jointly focused on student equity and access – they provide funding to school districts to aid primarily in the education of economically disadvantaged students.

High Attendance Day

The Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel have designated Thursday, September 20^th as statewide “High Attendance Day” to emphasize that consistent attendance is essential for success in school. This date is set aside to assist with working to increase student attendance because we know that students who are at school on time have a higher success rate than those who aren't.

On High Attendance Day, Kentucky’s public elementary, middle and high schools may compete in small-school or large-school categories. Six winners will be determined statewide based on each individual school’s performance, regardless of its district’s showing. The school in each category with the highest percentage attendance for September 20 will receive a minimum $500. If the school has more than 500 students, the award will increase based on enrollment.

The Monroe County School District would like to welcome our newest school resource officer, Officer Kenny Hagan.  Officer Hagan has many years of police officer experience and during his career, he has served as a school resource officer.  Adding additional law enforcement on our school campuses will provide an even safer learning environment for our students and staff.

Students will not be required to purchase school supplies this year.  All necessary supplies will be provided by the school.  Students will be required to pay a $25 technology fee. Last year each school ask parents to fill out a survey concerning the collection of a technology fee.  The results were 73.72% of the 1371 surveys returned agreed with the implementation of the fee. The sole purpose of this fee is to purchase Chromebooks / laptops for student use.  The amount of the fee is $25 per student/per year and it will be collected during registration.

The Monroe County Falcon Baseball Team will host Hancock County in the 3rd verses 4th region Class "A" Sectional Game at Stanley Poland Field on Saturday April 28th 3:00.  The winner of this game will move on to Whitaker Ball Park in Lexington, Kentucky on May 5th and 6th to play in the Class A State Championships.

We are initiating changes to increase safety of students and staff members while they are at school.  As you know, policies and procedures often need to be specific for different levels of school (elementary, middle, and high).  While some of the changes may seem drastic, please consider the reason behind the changes and know that our utmost concern is keeping your children safe while they are in our care.  

The GES BETA Club will be hosting a spring carnival this Friday, February 23rd.  Students who would like to attend can pay $10 for one hour of play time or $5 for thirty minutes of play time.

Campus Safety Improvements at MCHS and MCMS

Beginning December 8, 2017

• During school hours access to Monroe County High School and Monroe County Wellness Center will be from Old Mulkey Rd.
• Access to Monroe County Middle School will be from Gamaliel Rd. 
• Chains will be up from 8:00am to 2:30pm. 
• This will allow us to have better control of the traffic on the MCHS and MCMS campuses which will provide a safer campus for our students and staff.
• We have experienced drivers using the campuses as an access road from Gamaliel Rd. to Old Mulkey Rd.  During the school day we have students who use the area between the schools for physical education and other activities.  To reduce the risk of someone getting hurt, we are closing access from Gamaliel Rd. to Old Mulkey Rd. during school hours.
• In the near future, we will be installing a check-in station at the entry of MCHS.  This will allow us to monitor who enters and exits the student parking lot.  

If you currently use the MySchoolBucks program to add money to your child's lunchroom account, please note that the processing fee is being increased from $2.00 to $2.49.  This fee increase is the result of an increase in card schemes fees and will be effective as of December 11, 2017.  This fee is not through the Monroe County Board of Education but from the company Heartland School Solutions that handles the MySchoolBucks accounts.

Information Video for Solar Eclipse Day, August 21, 2017, Click Link to watch information video.

Students planning to stay home the day of the eclipse for viewing will need to fill out an EHO form.

If parents plan to check their children out of school on the 21st to view the eclipse, there are two scenarios:

A.) Student checks out of school, views the eclipse, and then returns to school - this will be a school approved check in/out.

B.) Student checks out of school to view the eclipse and will be out the reaminder of the day - this situation will require an EHO. 

Each student will recieve a bag from NASA that will contain the eclipse viewers.  If your child plans to watch the eclipse from home, or in a public viewing area, please let your child's teacher know so the bag can be sent home with the child.  You can also pick your child's NASA bag up at school on the 21st if you check them out early. 

Parents, we ask you to communicate with your child's teacher your intentions for your child if they are different than what the school has planned.  We want to be able to get the materials to you if your child will need them at home, yet have them here at school if they are viewing the eclipse with the Monroe County School District. 

Reminder:  4th - 12th Grades will view the eclipse at the GES campus with a signed waiver.

K-3 Grades will view the eclipse via live stream from the NASA website. 

Students who do not have a signed waiver will also watch the eclipse from the NASA website at their designated schools.

Please call, email, or text us any further questions you may have.

Gamaliel Elementary will be in the path of totality on August 21, 2017.  The eclipse will begin at 12:00 pm and will reach totality at 1:29 pm.  Totality will last for approximately 1 minute and 29 seconds. 

During the solar eclipse, all Monroe County students in grades 4th - 12th will be transported to Gamaliel Elementary School to participate in activities and view the period of totality.  Families wishing to have their child(ren) in 4th - 12th participate in the viewing will need to sign and date the waiver going home with students today.  Click here to download a copy of the waiver. 

Students in grades K-3 will have the opportunity to view the solar eclipse from NASA's live stream via technology in the classroom.  This will allow our primary students to safely view the event with their peers. 

Any student who does not have a signed waiver in grades 4th - 12th will view the eclipse from the NASA live stream inside their school building. 

Due to the number of students that will be on the GES campus, there will not be any parking or space for public viewing.  However, there will be various spots throughout the community of Gamaliel for public observation. 

Parents wishing to watch the eclipse with their child(ren) may choose to check them out of school to view the eclipse at one of the public viewing areas prior 10:30 am at each school's location.

Feel free to download the enrollment forms and bring them with you to Open House on August 3rd, 5-7 pm. 

Supply list are now ready for the 2017-2018 school year.  This list will also be included in the homeroom teacher's letter that each child will receive in July. 

The small playground caught fire on Friday, June 2, 2017 at approximately 1:50 pm. Thankfully, no one was hurt.  However, our school did have quite a bit of damage to the entire west wing of the building. 

As a result our Summer STARS program was postponed to begin on Monday, June 12th.

Great opportunity for students to attend summer camp

We will have our KPREP Pep Rally this Friday, April 28th. Our theme is "KPREP - We are going to SHINE!" Students are encouraged to dress up in bright beach clothes and accessories!

Some suggestions or ideas for dress up could include Hawaiian shirts, flip flops, sundresses, sunglasses, beach hats, tank tops,
swim suit cover ups, swimming trunks, etc. (Bathing suits must cover the stomach.)

The Monroe County Falcon Football team will soon be getting a much needed practice football field thanks to the generosity of Cleary Construction Inc. and  Rock Solutions, LLC and Precision Engineering, LLC. Construction  on the field will begin in the near future. The new practice field will be located behind the stands at Darrell Carter Stadium.  Above is a drawing of the work that is going to be performed.

Gamaliel Elementary School's BETA Club will be having a Spaghetti Dinner in the gym on Friday, March 24th at 6:00pm to raise money for their trip to compete at the National Junior BETA Convention in Orlando, Florida.  Cost per meal is $10.00 and will include spaghetti with marinara or meat sauce, salad, garlic bread, and various homemade desserts. 

We will have BETA projects on display that night and our special talent group will perform. 

Please call the school to reserve your ticket or contact any BETA student, parent, or sponsor. 

Yearbooks are now on sale.  Cost of each yearbook is $25.00.  See Mrs. Tootie in the front office or contact your child's teacher to order yours today. 

Advanced tickets will be on sale tomorrow from 8am to 12pm at the Wellness Center. The price is 6 dollars cash only.  Lady Falcons play at 3pm Sunday at Diddle.

Date set for April 21st

The MCHS Lady Falcons basketball team will play in the second round of the regional tournament tomorrow night against Metcalfe county at Diddle Area in Bowling green.  Game time is 6pm.  Advance tickets can be purchased tomorrow from 8 am to 2 pm at the Monroe County Wellness Center.  Tickets in advance are $6 and $8 at the gate.  Also, Coach John Petett will going around to each school tomorrow selling tickets.  Good Luck to our Lady Falcons!

GES will be participating in a Relay for Life Spirit Week, February 6th - 10th. 

Students who would like to donate $0.25 a day to the Relay for Life can dress up each day of that week.  To dress up the entire week, cost to students would be $1.25.  If you would like to make a larger donation, you would be free to do so.

The King Who Couldn't Be Fooled

Please join us at Gamaliel Elementary School for our 25^th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday November 11^th, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.

We would like to extend a special invitation to all veterans, current military servicemen and women, parents and community members, families of veterans, past and present, as well as all patriotic citizens. This year our program is focused especially on reverencing the sacrifices made by Americans - from the Revolutionary War that won our independence as a nation, to the sacrifices of our current men and women serving our great nation. This year’s ceremony is specifically aimed at teaching our students about all that the USA has fought for, the great losses suffered in the name of freedom, liberty and independence, as well as the personal cost to our veterans and their families. We want our students to understand that the great freedoms we enjoy in America did not come without great cost. And we want to honor those who paid that price. Please take time to join us for this important program.

Gamaliel Elementary Fall Festival will be held on Friday, November 4th for students during the school day and on Saturday, November 5th for the community from 4:00-7:00.

Each grade level is currently selling chances on baskets to be given away at the close of the festival on November 5th. Chances are $1.00 each.

Glow in the Dark Party

GES Beta Club will be hosting a Glow Party to raise funds for their upcoming trip to BETA Convention.  All GES students will have the opportunity to attend.  Students are encouraged to dress in neon colors. 

Glow toys, glow in the dark punch, and jewelry will be sold seperately. 

Don't forget that parent/teacher conferences will be held this Thursday, October 20th from 3:00-6:00pm at GES.  Report cards will go home at that time. 

Support your school's effort to stop bullying.

Please make plans to join us at GES Friday, October 14th at 12:30.  We will be celebrating the highest KPREP scores we have earned!  Our parade down Main Street will begin at 12:30 with a medallion ceremony to follow in the gym.  We ask that you help to pack Main Street for our parade and proudly wear your PURPLE AND GOLD!

On Thursday morning, October 6, 2016 a black 2002 GMC Yukon was stolen after bolt cutters were used to enter the bus lot of Monroe County Board of Education.  The individuals were seen driving in the county with the vehicle.

On Monday morning October 10, 2016 a black Nissan truck was stolen and driven through the gate at approximately 3:55 A.M. according to surveillance cameras.  Monroe County Board of Education is offering a $500 reward that can lead to a conviction of the person or persons involved in these thefts.  If you have any information, please contact the Tompkinsville City Police or the Monroe County Sheriff’s office.

A 5K/Fun Run/Walk

Tonight's away MCHS Football game against North Hardin will be played at 6:30 cst.

Attention 5th Graders:

Have you ever wanted to spend the day in Frankfort at the State Capitol?  If so, now is your chance.  Students from all over the state in grades 5th - 12th have the opprotunity to be "Legislative Page" for the Day.  If selected, you will spend the day with various state government representatives from your region to assist them with various jobs.  If you are interested, please complete this attached form and return to school no later than September 29th.  If you have any questions, please contact Glenna Geralds.  If chosen, transportation will be the responsibility of the student's family. 

Order forms will be going home with students today for school t-shirts. We have not sold shirts in several years, so we feel like it's time to make up an order! Money from these sales will be used to purchase Google Chromebooks for each grade level. Our goal is to purchase each grade their own classroom set of laptops/Chrome books over the next two years.

Sign-ups are now underway for the local USA/High School Swim team.  If your child would like to be a part of the team you can go by the Wellness Center and pick up a packet and return by August 29th.  Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:15-5:00 for grades 7-12 and Tuesday and Thursday for grades K-6 from 3:30-4:30.

On July 25-26, 2016, Coach Dean Brownley, head coach at Centre College traveled to Monroe Co to do a swim camp for USA swimmers.  There were 18 swimmers in attendance and they learned many drills to better their swimming techniques.  This is the second year Coach Brownley has coached our swimmers during camp here at our facility. 

We will be hosting a swim camp for all those interested in being on the USA and High School swim team during the week of August 22nd.  Swimmers attending this camp will learn the different strokes and focus on starts and turns.  If you are interested in attending this camp please text or call Coach Dawn at 270-427-6148 or Coach Kim at 270-427-7993.  More information and a definite date will be announced soon.

Mike York, a representative from KDE, visited Monroe County Schools to speak to our teachers about our success with novice reduction. Teachers and administrators shared strategies with Mr. York that help students perform at high levels.

Kindergarten, Preschool & Head Start Registration at all three elementary schools.  Friday April 15, 2016  from 8:00-4:00

The Monroe County Family Wellness Center is currently registering students for Baseball and Softball.  Deadline to sign up is March 25, 2016.  Late sign-ups will be accepted until April 1, 2016 with an additional $10 late fee. 

Children must be 4 years old by April 1, 2016 and must be 12 or younger on May 31, 2016. 

Registration Fee:  $30 for members, $40 for non-members, each additional child is half price.  (Each child needs their own registration form.)

Registration forms were sent home with interested students today. Contact us at GES or the Monroe County Wellness Center if you have any questions or need additional forms. 

The Family Resource Youth Service Center staff attended a rally at the Capitol Rotunda on Thursday, March 10^th 2016, Celebrating Successes: 25th Anniversary Rally. This was an opportunity for FRYSC staff to celebrate the 25^th anniversary of the FRYSC program. Several representatives spoke to the group and expressed their gratitude for the services that FRYSC’s across the state provide for kids.

Monroe County Board of Education Accepting Bids

The Monroe County Board of Education will accept sealed bids for the sale of a

2006 Yamaha Rhino 450.

Bids will be accepted until 3:00 P.M. on February 12, 2016, which is deemed at the closing time of all bids.  All bids will be turned in at the Monroe County Board of Education.  UTV is located at the Maintenance shop at the Monroe County Board of Education for viewing.

The Monroe County Board of Education reserves the right to reject or accept any or all bids.

There WILL BE school in Monroe County, tomorrow, Thursday, January 28th. Please remind your teenage drivers to continue to be cautious, as well as yourself.

Parents please be reminded that there may be places that drivers are unable to turn around their bus due to soft conditions of the roads. Some students in rare cases may be required to meet their driver at the main road. Please contact your child's driver if you live on a road where a driver must turn around a bus.

It's book fair week! Students will be allowed to visit the book fair each morning and during their library time to make purchases. Parents are welcome to visit anytime. Books make excellent Christmas gifts! ??

Congratulations to Mason Hale for winning the AARP Grandparent of the Year Essay Contest. Mason won at the district level and was invited to read his essay at the Retired Teachers Association Meeting last Friday. His essay will now go on to compete at the regional level.

Gamaliel Elementary are the winners of the Socktober sock drive. GES won a $100 shopping spree for school supplies, a certificate and a sock full of goodies. They collected 506 pairs of socks for the young and elderly who are in need. The Monroe County School District collected a total of 1141 pairs of socks.

1.  Will the Monroe County School District automatically take all 10 days the waiver provides?

1. No.  We will only use MCSD@Home if we need to miss for snow, sickness, etc.  Therefore, if we have a mild winter and we stay healthy it is possible that we would not need to use any of the MCSD@Home days.

It seems like more and more people are relying on their phones to keep connected.  For this reason, the Monroe County School District now has an Apple App to help keep everyone informed.  This app allows everyone to get the latest news articles as well as our district calendar.

Gamaliel Elementary will celebrate Grandparent’s Day on Tuesday, November 24th at 12:30 p.m. At that time, we will gather in the gym for a short assembly. Grandparents will then be invited to stay and complete a variety of different activities with their grandchildren in the gym.

Students will be able to go home with their grandparents, if they return the permission form that is being sent home with them today in their gold folder.

We are very excited to see all of our grandparents!!

Just a reminder to always make sure your contact information for your student is up-to-date.  Anytime there is a phone number change please remember to make the school's office aware of that change.  

It will not be long until Winter time will be here and you would not want to miss the "No School" calls.

Did you know that every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets?  This October, SoulPancake and Kid President want 2 million people to prove that even the smalles acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless or underprivileged.

How can Gamaliel Elementary help?  We are asking all students to donate one pair of new socks.

What is our goal?  We would love to donate 100 pairs of new socks to families in our community.

This is your chance to see area artists displaying their work!

  The Monroe County School system initiated a workplace wellness plan, Spring Break Walkout, in which walking paths were measured and posters with directions were placed at each school. Employees were encouraged to walk before or after school or during their lunch break. For every mile walked, they would put a star by their name on a board. Small prizes were given to the winners, those that walked the most miles, and to all those that participated. Employees took advantage of walking paths and the friendly competition to see who would get the most stars.

Monroe County Schools' are seeking Site Based Decision Making Council parent members at each school.

Monroe County Schools will be on spring break beginning April 6 through April 10.

The Monroe Co. Boys Basketball team will compete in the regional tournament Saturday, March 7th at 9pm at WKU's Diddle Arena.  Advanced tickets are on sale today until 3pm at the Wellness Center and tomorrow from 8:30 – 2:00 at the Old High School.  Advanced Tickets $6, at the gate $8.

Due to the possibility of bad weather and the late hours that we will be traveling tonight, the Falcon Pep Band will not attend tonight’s game for Friday, January 30th , in Frankfort. Also for the same reasons and low numbers, there will not be a student pep bus going to the game. If the Falcons's advance, we will re-evaluate and send a one call out tomorrow for Saturday’s game.

There will be no school on Friday, January 30th due to the MCHS Boys playing in the All "A" Classic tournament in Frankfort.

Sandy England and Christie Biggerstaff presented the Monroe County School District Golden Rule Action Plan to the P-16 Council Meeting today. They shared the importance of educating stakeholders about Bullying. 

The Monroe County Boys Falcon Basketball team advanced to play in the regional finals of the All Class "A" tournament by defeating Glasgow tonight. The game will be played in Clinton County tomorrow night, Friday, January 23rd, starting around 7:30 pm.

The Monroe County Health Department is investigating a case of Pertussis (whooping cough).  Pertussis is a vaccine-preventable disease and if you or your child is up to date on immunizations, the probability of infection is lowered.

Please consider the following recommendations from the Monroe County Health Department:

1. Contact your physician if you or your child displays cold symptoms with a persistent cough. Pertussis immunization status should be reviewed and age-appropriate vaccine should be given and antibiotic treatment can be initiated if needed.

2. If you or your child develops Pertussis, you will not be permitted to attend school / daycare/ work  until 5 days of appropriate antibiotic therapy have been completed or for three weeks after the onset of cough, if treatment was not given. 

3. Keep your ill child at home until he or she is no longer contagious.  Keep contagious children home from activities where this disease could be spread to others.  Examples include church, scouts, and team sports.

Kentucky students have until Jan. 27 to submit entries to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s 2015 Poster and Essay Contest, “Kentucky Agriculture: Growing the Next Generation of Farmers.”

The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU Winter 2015 Super Saturdays will take place February 7, 14, 21, and 28, noon to 2:30 p.m.  There are 33 classes on the campus of WKU in Bowling Green and four available at the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville. Super Saturdays are for high-ability, high-interest students in grades 1-8.

Showing their patriotism, John Comer and Austin Carmona caught a "rain-free" minute to get the flag up at GES today.

Monroe County school administrators met Friday, January 9th to lay out a proactive approach to bullying in our schools. More information will be given to our students, parents and staff soon.  

*A Warming Center has been set up at the courthouse by emergency management for those who need a warm place or experience no heat at home during the frigid temperatures.  20 cots and transportation to the center is available by calling the hospital 270-487-9231.  This is a "warming center" - place to go in frigid temps if someone has a heating emergency, no food or anything else will be provided, just a warm place to sleep and be warm.
The center will only be open temporary till the temperatures rise. Contact David Rich 270-427-7737 for more information.

THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION HOPES EVERYONE HAD A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON AND IS READY TO COME BACK TO COMPLETE AN AWESOME SCHOOL YEAR BEGINNING MONDAY, JANUARY 5TH.

Several students were rewarded today for meeting their reading goal thanks to The Harold Pitcock Enhancement Reading Program. Students were given $5.00 to spend at the Gamaliel Dollar Store. These students were chosen from a drawing of all students in the homeroom who had met their goal and then the top AR reader in the overall grade. GES would like to thank Swirlies in Tompkinsville for donating the money for students to have this reward! We appreciate your support!

GES Open House will be August 11th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

During this time, you will be able to drop off school supplies, visit your new classroom, meet your teacher, and complete paperwork.

Over the summer we have had some new staff changes! GES would like to congratulate Mrs. Kathy Taylor on becoming our new Principal. We know she will do a fabulous job.  We would also like to welcome Mr. Jon Clemmons to our Tiger Staff as our new Assistant Principal.  We know that you will do wonderful things for our school.  We are going to have a great 2014-2105 school year!

Gamaliel Elementary is so proud of Larissa Stinson.  She recently donated 10 inches of hair to Lock of Love. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Open House/Meet the Teacher night will be July 24th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. You can bring your students school supplies, meet your child's teacher, practice opening lockers, and meet your new classmates!

We would like to congradulate Brionna Moore for her district winning essay in for the AARP Grandparents Essay contest. We wish her luck as her essay now moves on to state level competetion!

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren:

Did you know that Monroe County School District offers a support group for those grandparents currently raising their grandchildren?  If not, we invite you to come and see what it’s all about.  To attend the meetings you must have a grandchild enrolled in Monroe County schools ranging from  PS-12^th grade.  The meetings are held  at the Board of Education @ 12:00 on every 3^rd Thursday of the month.  We have various guest speakers and activities.  This month we will meet on November 19^th,  to discuss the New MCSC@Home program.  This would be a great time for you to come and see what the group has to offer.

Monroe County Middle School Football will begin on Monday, July 13th @ 5:30 for 8th grade and Tuesday, July 14th @ 5:30 for 7th grade.  There will be a "Short" parent meeting at the beginning of each day.  We will be meeting at MCMS.

We will be distributing equipment to the players and then we will have practice.  Make sure that the players have physicals by this date.

Recently the Board of Education started sending out phone messages with the caller ID reading “877-698-3261” instead of our traditional number “270-487-5456”. The reason this number was changed is to provide a call back number where you can actually hear the last message sent. Just call the number and press “1” to hear the most recent call.
