Monroe leads counties in reading proficiency,
released reports show

Monroe County third-graders posted the highest percentage in 10 southcentral Kentucky counties of students scoring proficient or distinguished in reading, according to the 2014 Early Childhood Profiles released this week by the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood.
The kids in Monroe County taking the Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress, or K-PREP, posted a 66.9 percent in proficient or distinguished in the 2012-13 school year. They were kindergartners in the 2009-10 school year. The Monroe County kids also posted a 54.6 percent in math. The Kentucky percentages for proficient or distinguished are 47.7 percent in reading and 43.6 percent in math.
