Monroe County Schools Show Support for the 623rd
Soldiers from the local 623rd National Guard will leave Tompkinsville around 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th, heading for their first location before deploying to the Middle East later in the year. The community is urged to come out and line the roadway from the Armory to Carter Elementary in support of the soldiers and their families.
In addition, a recognition ceremony for the soldiers activated from the Tompkinsville battalion will be held today (Thursday, January 3rd) at 3 p.m. at the National Guard Armory with the public invited to attend.
Monroe County Schools will also be hosting soldiers from the 623rd and their families affected by the deployment at the Friday night game, January 4th, against Allen County. Soldiers and their families will be recognized during halftime of the girls' game, prior to the Homecoming festivities between games.
The Community has been asked to display flags and/or yellow ribbons in support of the troops deploying until they return in nine months. The Monroe County School System has a yellow wreath displayed at each facility and will remain on display until their arrival home.
